On the third Monday of July, K-Days opened events with a parade commemorating the Indigenous Peoples in our land.

K-Days was bringing attention to Canada's National Indigenous Peoples Day. "National Indigenous Peoples Day takes place on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. For generations, many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities have celebrated their cultures, languages, and traditions at this time of year. The summer solstice holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous Peoples, marking a time of renewal, connection, and celebration", (Government of Canada).

While our Indigenous Peoples Day is on July 21, the Global Indigenous Peoples day is not for another couple weeks! In 1994 the United Nations General Assembly made a resolution that the International Day of the Worlds Indigenous Peoples will be on August 9th of every year. In 1982 on this day, the Working Group on Indigenous Populations commenced, (United Nations). Indigenous Peoples are and should be valued everywhere on Earth for their culture, traditional knowledge and their Peoples' additional knowledge of how to live in peace with our ecosystem.
