August 6-16: Alberta Indigenous Games!

Updated: Aug 28, 2025

At Rundle Park in Edmonton (2909 113 Ave), the Alberta Indigenous Games are taking place with Indigenous youth from across the province.

This packed week for Indigenous youth is filled with "competitive team sports, traditional games, special events, education and cultural connection", that give these youth a chance to shine!

From August 12 to 19th of 2025, is this seventh edition of the Indigenous games in Alberta. These games were "founded in 2009 by Allan Ross, an Indigenous teacher and coach, and have gotten bigger each year since the start".

Elder Fred Campion realizes that this "event supports families and young people in a heathy and nurturing way, leading to stronger communities and healthier lifestyles." Along with round dances, group elder teaching, hand games, and Tipi raises; the youth also have the chance to participate in less traditionally Indigenous types of games such as track and field, basketball, volleyball and even skateboarding.

"Competitions venues include various Rundle Park facilities, the Saville Community Sports Centre, the FX sports Centre as well as several soccer centres and basketball courts among others. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. on August 17 at the Rundle Park Family Centre."
